The Dubberly Design Office has a section of their site devoted to Concept Maps and the creative process. Excellent mapping of how a design mind works.

IMERSA – Full Dome Conference
Our 3D motion class has worked quite a bit with the Denver Museum of Nature & Science on full dome projects. They are hosting the Full Dome Summit in October, check out the link and contact me or Travis for details if you are interested.
Here is the Application:

Typography Competition
Communication Arts Typography competition is only open for 10 more days. This is a new annual for them, I’m familiar with the Illustration Annual, Photography, Design, Interactive and Advertising. Might be a good chance to get any interesting typographic work that you’ve done out there in the public!
Global Societies 2010
Interesting graphic design made through programming. What I like about this is that it is decorative, but the decoration results from an ordering of information – the societies are alphabetical, arranged along an arc, growing from each society. At a glance, you can see some very complex information in a beautiful format.
About Tumblr
I’ve updated the Network>Tumblr link on the site to point directly to people who are “Following” designucd.tumblr.com . The way that Tumblr works is that if you have a Tumblr page, you can Follow anyone else’s page and their posts show up in your Tumblr administration area. Sort of a cross between Facebook and WordPress.
I think it’s going to work pretty well since we can ‘ReBlog’ interesting blog posts or images from the class blogs that are participating and will help everyone to know and see what other students are doing that are not in your class. If you have a Tumblr account, go ahead and navigate to designucd.tumblr.com and click ‘Follow’ in the upper right. If you don’t see the link, you must be logged into your Tumblr admin account for it to work.
One caveat, keep your Tumblr page about school and design, once we are Following your page, we could see any or all of your posts and we may re-blog it so it’s kind of public in that way.
Immersive Design Conference
The Future of Immersive Design Conference has some really interesting topics, such as “Inhabiting Data”, “5D fight club” and “Designing Transmedia Worlds”.
Adobe makes Web Fonts Available
Adobe has announced that it is making the Adobe Web Fonts available for use on the web. This is welcome news to designers that want to control the presentation of fonts using the @font-face css code. You can read more about the history of web type on the web type wiki for a perspective of how to specify type that adheres to all copyright issues.
Social Media Links
We are actively seeking suggestions from Digital Design students as to how you would like to share work with each other. Right now, I have added links in the menu above to Digital Design groups that have been created on Tumblr, Flickr and Vimeo. Please join the group if you have an account at any of these sites. We plan to limit membership to UCD students or alumni and we hope that it is a place where you can all see what kinds of work students are in the Digital Design program. My hope is that works in progress would be shown as well as finished designs, or that class projects would be posted to the groups as they are developing.
Each of the groups I linked to have their advantages and disadvantages, and are linked up in different ways but they are all free. I had not heard of Tumblr before, but it is nice that the pages can easily be redesigned, either by selecting a template or writing the code from scratch.
For now, I will keep all of these up and we’ll see if a site emerges that works best. Feel free to contact me if there is another group you would like to see in the menu.
