Shows how to navigate in the 3D space. Essentially, you are always a Camera in a 3D program looking at objects. Imagine using a camera to look at an item on a desk. To see the back of the item, you could rotate it with your hand, but in a 3D program you should only rotate or move the object with a purpose, like for an animation. What you really need to do is move your camera (you) to a position below or behind the desk and look at it from there, keeping the object stationary at all times.
This video explains the keyboard shortcuts needed to do that. Here they are for reference:
Rotate view: Hold down Option & drag mouse in camera view
Pan view: Hold down 1 & drag mouse in camera view
Zoom view: Two finger drag on a Trackpad, or use the scroll wheel on a mighty mouse
